Pattern

A mix of 2 floral prints of the same color

If you have been following my posts on color, I think the same levels of difficulty apply to pattern.  Go to my "Color and Pattern" pages for examples which I group into 3:

  • Easiest~same color, same pattern group
  • Harder~different colors, same pattern or vice-versa
  • Most difficult~different colors, different patterns

In some ways, its harder for us baby-boomers to mix patterns.  I mean, we were brought up not to mix polka-dots and stripes.  AND we can look a little crazy at our age

So I won't double-dare you this week to go out of your comfort zone and do a most difficult pattern mix-up.  But maybe you can just think about it???

Oh, and for any of you that emailed me photos, please resend them as I lost all my email from last week.  Again, my email address link is here:  email.

  3. You're so right about having to shake off our early training, Paula. We were told not to wear black with navy, for heaven's sake! : > Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday.

  4. What a great jacket!
I have a difficult time mixing patterns. Usually one pattern piece with solids to compliment...
    I'm thinking....

  5. You're tiny so this short printed jacket looks very cute on you. I have to be careful with patterns. I thrifted one patterned blazer, but that didn't work out so well and I had to re-donate it. I'm so glad those old rules are being lifted from us baby boomers though.

    1. Dont give up yet though! Prints are very subjective. I stay away from florals now--graphic prints are less trouble!
      I'm all for no rules!

  8. Love your jacket!!
Funny thing I have no fear of pattern mixing--guess it comes from art school background and making quilts.
In fact-- I'm pattern mixing today--black pinstripe trousers, dark orange T and a jacket that looks like it has multi-color fireworks or asters all over it!

  14. An astute post, as usual. Flipping through a "Lucky" magazine this month, I was taken aback at the complete dominance mixed patterns had for spring. Not just mixed patterns, but layer and layers of them. I don't try it often, but the first step is thinking about it. Thanks for the inspiration.
