Cutesy--Good or Bad?

dress~Rockport Boutique--on sale, $25.!!!
jacket~Koh's
shoes~Off Broadway

How do you feel about being cute?  Is cute a bad word for those of us over a certain age?  Should it be reserved for those under 10?  I'm mentioning it because this is a CUTE sundress.

It's probably these little embroidered flowers that really punch up the cute vibe.  And today, I am embracing the cute in me.  I guess it's one facet of my personality--not the majority of my style, but a piece of it.  I do remember those days when all I wanted to be was sexy....those days are few and far between....

I've worn this dress for different occasions; out to eat (bottom photo),  work (top photo).  In the work version, I funked it out a bit with the jacket and the shoes--more my style.

How do you feel about cute?

  1. Paula, this is BEAUTIFUL! You have the face and the figure to pull off something this sweet. I guess what you call cute, I call sweet. I just can't pull off sweet. My features and figure are too pronounced.....not subtle at all. But you have such an ethereal look to you....a la Doris Day in her heyday! I think this looks wonderful on you! In both pictures!!! Cutie pie hugs to you! ~Serene

  3. I say be what you want to be and I agree with Serene, you can carry this off beautifully. I love the addition of the jacket, but on a hot summer day, the dress by itself is just too cute!!!

  4. Oh Paula! It is sooo cute! And you look great in it! I understand worrying about cute now that I'm in my 50's. I'm still attracted to 'cute' stuff....especially if it has embroidery on it. Some days I think, 'no, I need to act my age'.... and some days I don't care if it makes folks shake their heads and say, 'she shouldn't'. I wear the cute anyway....and I don't look nearly as cute in 'cute' as you do!

  6. Paula,
You are one person that can pull off cute any day of the week. I think it's your small frame and glorious smile!
The dress is adorable and I like the
    edgy sandals.

  8. bouncing back from your comment on my post. I don't know any other way to do it!
Yes, like Bazaroworld. But, using real women. Not undernourished women with more money than God! We are the ones that live in this life, we may as well rock it!

I think you do cute quite well. the denim in the first pic and the shoes in the second pic add balance. If you wore patent leather mary janes that would be too "little girly" but the added "edginess of the jacket and the shoes gives it balane.
I agree that not all woman can pull off cute but you sure can!

  12. I don't think there's anything wrong with cute. I like to look cute. I think cute can take different forms, though: there's girly cute, casual cute, funky cute, etc.. You're wearing a girlier cute, but I think the jacket edges into funky cute. The jacket also offsets the girliness, which may help anybody who fears too much girly cute! Whatever it is, though, it looks terrific on you. No need to worry.

  13. The dress looks GREAT and seems to suit you. Cute is sort like "pretty" for me, not something that's ever felt like a good fit. I don't have a problem with with it philosophically or aesthetically (in fact, I really love looking at some of kate spade's stuff, though it mostly just feels wrong on me).

  14. I love cute, but I've always had a hard time with it, well I've had a hard time with it since I became and adult. I'm 5'9" tall which does not do cute well.

You, on the other hand, look great in your cute dress! It suits you.

  16. I've made some attempts at cute...I like sundresses like this, just because they are cool and comfortable. I think one has to be careful with "cute."

  18. I'm completely down with cute. I take it to mean free spirited and fun loving and I'm all over that. Life is to short to be too serious.

I think that dress is lady-like and sweet. Hows that?:)

  19. If you hadn't used the word 'cute' I would never have thought of it.

Instead, I would have said, beautiful, natural, feminine.

  20. I'm not a fan of cute when it's on me, but it's fine when it's on somebody else. all my life I've been defined as cute -- to the point where I despise the word. Cute, to me, always implied that I would be picked on. I always wanted to have some edge. On you, it looks great.
