Coffee Talk: Martha Stewart’s Capri Pants

I wear capris all the time. Zumba, weekend casual wear.  I like the shorter length—they are more flattering on me than the "cropped" length that accentuates my skinny ankles. (For my definitions here, capri length is just below the knee where cropped is just above the ankle.)

And then I saw this:

Can someone help me out here? Aside from the oversized top-half that does not work, these capris on Martha Stewart look dated to me. Why doesn't this work?

Maybe I need to re-think the capri thing. :~(

  1. Paula, have I got a deal for you!!! I have cankles, so I'd love to donate some of mine to bulk up your ankles and skinny up mine...deal???
As for Martha....hmm....too sparkly, too tight, wrong color....are just some of the things that pop into my mind.
Keep wearing yours....you HAVE to look better than Martha!

  2. OMG, Martha's lost the plot here. Are we sure she wasn't supposed to be attending some sort of Glam Pirate party?

  3. I think it is the fit on her that is just not flattering. I like a capri legging with a tunic like you are wearing...but when you look at the unflattering fit of her top and the all over bling,,,it just does not work.

  4. Paula....to be honest, I really like Martha's leggings! I'm not feeling the whole look though, and I think Pam nailed it. The top isn't a good fit, there's too much going on when the sparkly leggings should be the only attention getter. I would have paired these leggings with an tunic top (kind of like her jacket...in an ivory shade and straight but flowing style. For shoes, I would have opted for an ivory ballet slipper or nude sandal. The heels just don't work with those leggings. I think leggings, even capri leggings are still a great option! I think the way you have styled yours is far more flattering!! You are looking good girly!! Hugs! Serene

    1. After much analysis i think you and Pam are right--and a lot of it has to do with the shoes. Flats would have looked cute or even a wedge.
The pants e would not have worked if they were black. And yes, top is too short. Thanks for helping me with this!

  5. I think the problem is the top she's wearing. These would look adorable with maybe a black chiffony tunic and black heels of some sort.

  6. I think that Martha's outfit proportions are a bit off and that they color is too close to her skin, she needs a kick of color or a big statement piece of jewelry.
I wear capris all the time and I just adapt them to my style and lifestyle so I think that you will be great wearing yours.

And you look cute in your capris! I like your look better~

  7. Hello,
I think it's the color and the length, too short. I ike the sparkly fabric though. But your look is very cute!

  8. Doesn't a woman like this have a stylist? Her face and hair look so gorgeous but everything is wrong about this outfit. The pants are too tight, too glittery, end at the biggest part of her calves, the jacket is boxy and shapeless, the top should have been kept simpler and shorter or much longer. One of the worst looks I've seen in a long time. Your look is good though, since you are wearing a long top over them. Keep on rocking those capris!

I sure hope that she dressed herself and a stylist didn't dress her, because if her stylist did this this I would fire them. I totally agree with Sylvia, this just doesn't work. This is a total style disaster!

Sorry for the anonymous post, it wouldn't post correctly.
