Fur and Cotton

This week it's all about cotton and fur.  Well, fake fur that is.  I'm still in denial of winter, so I am mixing winter fabrics with summer.

Even fake fur comes in handy in NE where there are more than 100 days below freezing.  Although I have gone to fake now, I must confess I have some real furs still hanging around.  It has become politically incorrect to wear real fur in Boston--and I can feel the tension when I wear one.  (disclaimer:all of my real furs are over 25 years old--could that be a disclaimer?)

For those of you who would like to see more of my sketches, here is the one from this week.

I have lots of fake fur stuff; fur clogs, fur scarfs, fur hats, fur vests, fur coats, fur headbands, fur gloves.  My girlfriend calls my fur outfit crazy-ass; but seriously, not as crazy as this fur skirt.

Thanksgiving, Treasures and Talkies

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday; I am hoping to extend the Thanksgiving bliss into as much as the Christmas season as possible.

This week, as it was a short week, I just have a couple of outfits on video AND I HAVE SOUND!  Yes, we have talkies, friends!
(although I must say it is a bit soft--hopefully I can correct this in the future)

1st Outfit details:  Sweater: Atnthropologie
Skirt: Banana Republic
Booties: Nordstom The Rack

2nd Outfit Details:  Vest: Marshall's***
Skirt and Shirt:  Thrifted

The vest was such a find at Marshall's.  I swooped down and nabbed it when someone put it back on the rack.  It is one of my "TREASURED" items in my closet and probably about 8 years old.  It is reversible--fur on one side and suede on the other.    I look at my closet now and am thankful for my "treasures" that have stood the test of time.
It's just one of the millions of things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving~

In Denial of Winter

Even though it's not quite winter yet, we've had some pretty cold mornings here in NE. One morning it was 19!  That put me in denial mode and the way that translates into my clothing is by mixing my summer clothes with my winter.

Summer knit dress with leather jacket
This mix of summer/winter helps with keeping the layers thinner.

On to the clothes in the video!
It's hard to tell, but the red and blue pleather jackets are the same.  I bought one and liked it so much, I went back and bought the other!
I think these summer dresses work well with the pleather jackets because they are substantial fabrics; one is linen and the other is a knit.
Oh, and did you notice my scarf?  I have tied it in the back with an elastic; I will soon cut it smaller, and sew it as an infinity scarf.  Want to know why?  Because the fear of bulk is burned into my memory because of winter bulk like this:

Statement Necklace

I don’t have many necklaces. I am an earring person. But when I saw this colorful trend, I just had to have some. I’ve worn this necklace 3X’s this week; (a gift for Mother’s Day), and get many compliments.

It was a great subject for my drawing of the week.

From the MFA; broadcollar

The statement necklace is nothing new—heck, you could say it was older than 2000 years old! Although, they called them “broadcollars” back then; looks like a statement necklace to me. Same idea, no?

Have a great week, and Hello to everyone over at Patti’s Visible Monday!
