Weekly Inspiration: Hats Exhibit

There was a great Hats Exhibit at the PEM that I took in over the weekend.  The exhibit was of hats old and new, crazy and beautiful, worn and unworn.  I love that that the place was full of women wearing hats and talking hat memories.

The thing about hats that mostly fascinates me is how insanely crazy they can get design-wise, and it's an acceptable crazy.  And I mean not just today, (thinking Princess Wedding, Kentucky Derby) but years ago (old films, 20's thru 50's).  Me, being the artist, just love the crazy!  The most memorable hat for me?  This  crazy Pom Pom hat that was in a display with other hats worn by famous people. (like a lime green fascinator worn by Sarah Jessica Parker)

I was inspired, of course, to buy a hat at the giftshop.  (The one I am wearing is NOT the one!)

My new favorite: this fur vest.  I wore it today over a light jacket.

Would an exhibit like this inspire you to wear a hat? Would you even dare to wear a hat?  How about a wild hat?  If you do, send me a photo.  I'll make a post of all of our hats (wild and otherwise) along with my new hat!

Say Hi to Patti over at Visible Monday!

    1. The boots are dyed--but very old and the vest is a petite--on sale--because I am not.

  9. The hat exhibit looks like my kind of show. And you look radiant in your chapeau of the day. For me hats are a daily pleasure and I wouldn't think of not including them in my ensemble of choice. My collection is always expanding!

  10. I liked the exhibit as well! The hats in the gift shop are designer and not cheap - I'm glad you have a spectacular remembrance of the exhibit. I also learned a lot about vintage hats - the newsreels showing the latest hat designs seemed quite daring - influenced by the medieval period in one season!

  12. Love the outfit and red hat.
I rarely wear hats, but I do have a few. Some are vintage that my husband got me, but I think my head is too big for most of them....and I don't really wear the style of clothing that they are suited for.

  14. Hi Paula:-)
New on your blog (Thanks Patti and Visible Monday).
Bjork's hat pom-pom hat is stunning. I would wear it because I love fun hats - and silk scarves. I think both are good to brighten a day.
You red hat is adorable too.
    Have a great day,

  17. Oh I love the fur vest over the jacket. I just saw an article that showed wearing them that way is the way to update your wardrobe.
I like hats, but mostly on someone else. They just look too severe on me, or at least that is the way I see it.
